Overview

Wineport provides direct-to-consumer (DTC) wine compliance software for wineries. This policy explains what information we collect, how we use it, and the choices you have. It applies to the Wineport web application, our marketing site, and the Wineport app for Shopify.

We collect only what we need to provide compliance functionality, and we do not sell personal information.

Who this policy is for

Our direct customers are wineries and the people who operate them ("merchants"). In the course of providing compliance services, we also process limited information about a merchant’s own customers (wine purchasers) — for example, a recipient’s name and shipping address on an order. We process that purchaser information on the merchant’s behalf, as a service provider, so the merchant can meet its DTC compliance obligations.

Information we collect

  • ·Account information: your name and email address, provided through Google sign-in when you create a Wineport account.
  • ·Winery and license information: business details, permit and license numbers, filing addresses, and related records you enter or import.
  • ·Order data: order dates, destination state and ZIP, quantities, SKUs, and excise tax figures — entered manually, imported from a file, or synced from a connected platform such as Shopify.
  • ·Purchaser information on orders: a recipient’s name, email, and shipping address where present, used for per-customer volume tracking and compliance checks required by state DTC rules.
  • ·Connection credentials: access tokens for platforms you connect (for example, Shopify), stored securely and used only to sync your data.
  • ·Support communications: messages you send us through the contact form or by email.

How we use information

  • ·To calculate excise taxes, generate filing reports, and provide per-state filing instructions.
  • ·To track license and permit renewals and send the email reminders you configure.
  • ·To run compliance checks on orders and, where you enable it, place fulfillment holds on orders that fail a check.
  • ·To provide per-customer volume visibility so you can monitor state per-person shipping limits.
  • ·To operate, secure, and improve the service, and to respond to your support requests.

Shopify data

When you connect a Shopify store, Wineport accesses order, product, and customer information through Shopify’s API using the permissions you grant at install. We use this data to import orders, calculate compliance and taxes, and place fulfillment holds when an order fails a compliance check.

We honor Shopify’s mandatory data-protection requests. When a customer data request, customer redaction, or shop redaction request is received, we process it through the corresponding Shopify webhook: we surface or remove the relevant personal data, and on shop redaction we disconnect the store and remove synced personal data associated with it.

How we share information

We do not sell personal information. We share information only with service providers that help us run Wineport — our cloud database and hosting providers, and our transactional email provider for the reminders you configure — and only as needed to provide the service. We may disclose information if required by law.

Data retention

We retain your account and compliance records for as long as your account is active, because compliance and tax records often need to be kept for multi-year filing and audit purposes. You can delete a winery or your entire account at any time from Settings; doing so removes the associated data. We also process deletion requests received through Shopify’s redaction webhooks.

Security

We use industry-standard measures to protect your information, including encryption in transit, access controls, and row-level security on our database. Platform access tokens are stored securely and used only to provide the service. No system is perfectly secure, but we work to protect your data and limit access to it.

Your choices

You can review and edit your winery and account information in Settings, configure or turn off email reminders, disconnect a connected platform, and delete a winery or your entire account. If you are a wine purchaser and want a merchant’s record about you corrected or removed, contact the merchant; we will assist them in fulfilling the request.

Children

Wineport is a business tool intended for adults of legal age operating a licensed winery. It is not directed to children, and we do not knowingly collect information from anyone under the legal age.

Changes to this policy

We may update this policy as the service evolves. When we make material changes, we will update the date below and, where appropriate, notify you.
